Learning Objectives
  • Demonstrate Business Management Learning Outcomes
  • Use strategic thinking
  • Develop practical skills in business management
  • Test your business acumen
  • Understand overall interaction and impact of various parts of a business on one another
  • Grow the awareness of competition

This textbook was organized to help you navigate CAPSIM and our simulation for class. You have learned many of these topics in your classes throughout the program. My hope is that this book will job your memory and help serve as a resource to make you more comfortable with the simulation as we go.

Why have a simulation?

  • Risk Free
  • Try alternative strategies
  • Enjoyable and competitive
  • Compressed time
  • Risk free (you aren't actually managing a company with real shareholder dollars.

The simulation is divided into four main decision areas: R&D (research and design), Marketing, Production, and Finance. There are two additional elements you will need to manage in Round 4, HR and TQM. These decision areas correlate to courses in our program like Marketing, Customer Service, Operations Management, Business Finance and Accounting, Lean Management and Human Resource Management. Leadership and Supervision and Team Building and Problem Solving lessons learned will help with this class as well.

I have currated materials that will help you understand and navigate the decision areas in this class and you will find this helpful through the class and the final exam. Enjoy the summary and feel free to bring out your notes from these classes you have taken.

Let's jump into the review by discussing strategy and operations.
