Career pathing involves mapping or planning an employee's career within the organization through a collaborative process between the individual and the employer. Because a career represents a significant emotional investment in one's work, employees often view organizational support for their development as a meaningful benefit. From the individual's perspective, career development focuses on planning for maximum satisfaction and reward over the course of one's working life.
The study of employee development equips learners with the ability to explain its importance for both individual growth and organizational success, identify the core components of an effective development strategy, and analyze how these efforts can be aligned with broader organizational goals. It also enables learners to evaluate the benefits and challenges involved in implementing development programs and apply best practices while anticipating future trends in the field.
