The Academic Senate for California Community Colleges Open Educational Resources Initiative (OERI) was funded by the California legislature in trailer bill language during the summer of 2018. The OERI’s mission is to reduce the cost of educational resources for students by expanding the availability and adoption of high-quality Open Educational Resources (OER). The OERI facilitates and coordinates the curation and development of OER texts, ancillaries, and support systems. In addition, the OERI supports local OER implementation efforts through the provision of professional development, technical support, and technical resources.

Meet the Editors of the 2025 Revision
Rae Ann Ianniello
Rae Ann Ianniello has taught college-level Business and Communication courses for over 25 years. In her professional experience, she has worked as a Human Resources Manager, Director of Contract Education, Career Center Director, and Leadership Coach. Rae Ann holds a Master’s degree in Communication, two teaching credentials, a certificate in Human Resources Management, and a Master Trainer certificate from NUMMI (Toyota affiliate). She currently teaches at Chabot College and provides HR-related consulting services to numerous companies throughout the U.S.
Melissa Patterson
Melissa Patterson, MBA, spent many years as a manager in high-end retail. She considers communication and connection with clients a crucial element of business success. After teaching part-time for eight years, she became a full-time professor in the Business Department at Chabot College, where she currently teaches classes in Business Statistics, Introduction to Business, Business Law, Introduction to Marketing, and Business Communication.
Besides teaching large lecture, online, hybrid, and hyflex courses, Melissa evaluates online content to ensure it is accessible and meets high standards. With professional and academic experience, she bridges the gap between theory and practice in her courses.
