    Scenario

    Sun City Boards is in the initial stages of planning to open a surfboard manufacturing facility in Australia. Tom has heard the horror stories of companies that have taken an exploitative approach to globalization and he wants to do things differently. He has asked you to draft a policy statement that addresses respect for cultural differences, fair labor practices and working with suppliers that have a sustainable business orientation.

    For Discussion

    1. As preparation for this discussion, review the Dimensions of Cultural Difference section and read Patagonia’s How We Work With Factories, Farms & Mills page.
    2. Reflect on what you’ve learned about Tom and Sun City Boards’ values and develop a policy statement that addresses ONE of the following: respect for local culture, fair labor practices or supplier guidelines. Your statement should include not only what the policy is but how it will be implemented and performance measured and include any related advocacy, association membership or commitment (i.e., to reporting) that you propose.

    Posts 2 and 3: Respond to Classmates’ Posts
