Assignment A

Scenario: You work for a campus or community organization (student center, food pantry, tutoring program, cultural club, or nonprofit partner). Your supervisor wants a professional 1–2 page report that can be shared with students, staff, and community members.

Prompt: Create a “Program Update” report that highlights an issue that affects students (cost, access, time, or belonging). Examples: extended tutoring hours, textbook affordability/OER awareness, food pantry usage, commuter support, bilingual outreach.

Instructions (Microsoft Word):

1. Create a 1–2 page document with a clear title and 2–3 short sections (ex: Overview, What We Learned, Next Steps).

2. Insert a Header that includes: Organization name + Report title (example: “ELAC Student Support – Program Update”).

3. Insert a Footer that includes: page numbers (Page X of Y).

4. Create one multilevel list (at least 2 levels) to organize action steps or recommendations.

   • Example:

     • 1. Outreach

       • a. Flyers in multiple languages

5. Use at least one advanced element to improve clarity (choose one):

   • SmartArt to summarize a process (ex: “How students access support”)

   • Signature line for an approving manager

   • Special characters where appropriate (ex: ©, ™, or accented names)

Deliverable: Submit one Word document (1–2 pages) showing header + footer with page numbers, a multilevel list, and one advanced element.

Scenario: Your report is expanding into a resource that students will refer back to throughout the semester. To make it easy to navigate and consistent, you will set it up like a “mini long document.”

Prompt: Create a 1–2 page “Student Resource Guide” for a campus/community topic that supports student success (examples: “How to access tutoring,” “Campus food resources,” “Commuter support checklist,” “OER & low-cost textbook options,” “How to request accommodations,” “Where to get tech help”).

Instructions (Microsoft Word):

1. Create a 1–2 page guide with at least 3 headings using built-in Styles (Heading 1 and Heading 2).

2. Insert an automatic Table of Contents at the top of the document.

3. Add one bookmark to a key section (ex: “Emergency Contacts” or “Steps to Get Help”).

4. Add one cross-reference that points the reader to another heading or section (ex: “See ‘Support Options’ on page…”).

5. Insert one captioned visual (choose one):

   • an image, screenshot, or SmartArt

   • then add a Caption (ex: “Figure 1: Support Request Process”)

6. Add one citation note using Footnote or Endnote (example: cite a campus webpage, brochure, or policy).

Deliverable: Submit one Word document (1–2 pages) with a Table of Contents, headings using Styles, a bookmark, a cross-reference, one captioned visual, and one footnote/endnote.
